nice, looks like we both have cassavetes on our minds.

Yes indeed!

Actually, I would argue that the house is too large for a roadway worker (of course, California Department of Transportation employees do actually make decent money). Admittedly, the house looks run-down, but it's just too damn big for Cassavetes' characters. The house in Love Streams, though, is close to perfect.

Probably because that was their actual house, right? Or are you talking about the house of his black girlfriend, her mom and her son? Cuz that one is pretty perfect, too. In fact, that movie is pretty perfect. I feel I need some intense catharsis next week: maybe I'll subject myself to a bunch of Cassavetes.

Yes, Robert Harmon's house is the Cassavetes residence. That's not what makes it perfect - that particular house looks exactly like what a previously successful but now permanently stuck writer from the East Coast moving to the easy(?) life in Los Angeles would live in (cost good money but not huge amounts, the location in the Hollywood Hills, the modern yet not agressively modern architecture, the decoration that's relatively tasteful but somehow impersonal, etc.)

Nothing of substance to add here, other than that the best touch in the Longhetti house is that master bedroom, with those doors!
